Song 257: Sickle and Hood

1st, 2nd, 6th, and 7th stanzas written by Brown Bird. 3rd, 4th, and 5th by Sherlock Ehetakl.

Well Death came swagger-walkin' out of the woods
Draggin' three cryin' ladies behind
Just three torn dresses and a big black hood
Rollin' over to their home in the sky
They said, "Are we gonna die?"
We all gotta die
"What have we done?"
You ain't done nothin' wrong

Two young lovers wandered into the woods
And Death come a trailin' behind
The young boy bit the sickle of the big black hood
While his lover just laid down and cried
He said, "Is she gonna die?"
This wasn't her time
"What have I done?"
You ain't done nothin' wrong

Three swift archers hunted in the woods
And Death stalked them from behind
One fell to an arrow from his brotherhood
He knelt down and looked Death in the eye
He said, "Are they gonna die?"
Oh they'll have their time
"What have I done?"
You ain't done nothin' wrong

An old man took a strong axe into the woods
And Death slowly sharpened the blade
A new stump rested where an old tree once stood
The old man's blood covered the glade
He said, "Am I gonna die?"
Seems you're already dead
"What have I done?"
You ain't done nothin' wrong

One poor little girl once played in the woods
And Death sat and sighed at her sight
But she went flower-picking where no girl should
And a bee's sting was the sickle's fresh bite
She said, "Am I gonna die?"
We all gotta die
"What have I done?"
You ain't done nothin' wrong

When Death got to heaven with the souls from the woods
He was blinded by the Lord's holy light
You can't go swingin' 'round the sickle in your big black hood
When you've been drinkin' from the fruit of the vine
He said, "Am I gonna die?"
We all gotta die
"What have I done?"
You've been reckless son

Well I warned you not to wield around the sickle and hood
Taking souls under the spell of the shine
Now you can drink the firewater from the devil's woods
I'm gonna send you where the sun never shines
I'm gonna send you where the sun never shines
